Gifts and Donations

  • Thank you! Please sign up for our newsletter, follow us on social media using the links at the bottom of this page, and consider making a donation. Our students do not pay tuition or other living expenses while they are students. Your gift funds their education and residential life.

We are a school, but our mission extends far beyond our campus. We encourage you to spread the word about SOLA within your networks and advocate on behalf of Afghan women.

  • We’re always looking for talented educators to join us. If you’re interested in working at SOLA, please see the listings on our Jobs page.

  • Unfortunately, our campus location in Rwanda often makes the shipping of items astronomically expensive and logistically difficult. In place of items, we encourage you to make a monetary donation so that items can be purchased on site. If you are a business who regularly ships to Rwanda and would like to donate items, please contact development@sola-afghanistan.org.

  • SOLA is a non-profit organization registered in the United States. SOLA is funded 100% through charitable donations from individuals, private foundations, and other grants. All donations fund operating expenses in both the US and Rwanda. For more information about giving, email development@sola-afghanistan.org

  • Unlike typical boarding schools, our students’ tuition and living expenses are 100% covered by SOLA. Your gift covers all costs associated with school and life for our students - everything from housing and clothing to classroom resources and teacher salaries.

Life in Rwanda

  • SOLA Inc. is a registered 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that funds the operations of the SOLA School, a registered international nonprofit school in Rwanda.

  • The nation of Rwanda emerged from unimaginably dark days in the 1990s to become a place of regional stability in Africa, and its people have an extraordinary understanding of and empathy with refugees and their needs.

Even when the day comes when we are able to safely re-establish SOLA in Afghanistan, our intention is to also maintain a campus in Rwanda.

  • Our students are minors, far from home and away from family. In many cases, their families remain in Afghanistan — so we choose not to reveal our students’ faces in order to preserve anonymity and protect their families.

On occasion, a student’s family may have departed from Afghanistan. In these cases, and only with family permission, do we share images of a student with her face uncovered.

  • For the well-being of our students, SOLA’s campus is not open to general visitors.

  • We are committed to being part of the rebuilding of Afghanistan. We plan to reopen our campus in Kabul when conditions on the ground make it safe to do so.

Student Enrollment

  • We have closed the 2023 admissions season. The 2024 season will be announced here and on SOLA’s social media platforms.

  • SOLA has been, and always will be, committed to the education of Afghan girls no matter where they are located. We will soon be welcoming a new class of Afghan girls to SOLA; these girls come from the diaspora outside of Afghanistan and are eager to continue their educations on our campus in Rwanda.

We are acutely aware that many Afghan girls, both within Afghanistan and beyond its borders, do not have the means to physically attend SOLA. We’re actively working on innovating ways to reach these girls, and we’ll have more to share on these initiatives soon.

  • Just like any other boarding school, we will encourage our students to apply to colleges/universities and we will be as supportive as possible in this next phase of their educational lives.
