SOLA Helps Christiane Amanpour Launch Girls Education Campaign

New York, 10 Oct 2012 - SOLA is proud and excited to announce Managing Director Shabana Basij-Rasikh as a guest speaker at the 10x10 Campaign launch hosted by Christiane Amanpour in New York City on October 10. The grassroots campaign to educate girls initiated by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning producers and directors centers around a feature film narrated by Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, which will tell the extraordinary stories of girls around the globe fighting to realize their dreams against impossible odds.

SOLA celebrates first day of school with honor pledge ceremony

Kabul, 28 Sept 2012 - Today marked the first day of school for SOLA's incoming class.
13 girls joined the SOLA community through their taking of the SOLA Honor Code Pledge in the presence of their families and teachers.
These 13 students were selected from among 55 girls from 14 provinces who applied to SOLA this year.

Admission Process launched for the academic year 2012/2013! Check out http://www.sola-afghanistan.org/admissions.html for a copy of the application form, which was due August 29 for 2012. SOLA conducted information sessions to help applicants complete the form on August 8, 11 and 13 from 10a.m. to 12 noon. Looking forward to receiving your applications for 2013!

for a world-class education with promising young women from across South/Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Congratulations, Zeinab--may your dreams come true!
 
Wali H. accepted to King's Academy in Amman, Jordan for a diverse educational experience unlike any available in the Middle East . we are very proud and honored by your achievement!

Sabira M. awarded Eastman Young Leaders Award and scholarship by the University of Rochester. She was cited for her "exceptional compassion, generosity, and understanding—a leader who makes good decisions for herself and helps others to do the same." And for "bravery beyond her years... to not only better herself, but, someday, to also better her country... She makes our community richer by illuminating a world of which almost all of us are so unaware.  She is tireless in her pursuit of her education and never ceases to challenge herself. She is the future of  Afghanistan."

Fatima S. receives scholarship to attend Northfield Mount Hermon for a post-graduate year of exceptional academic experience in Northfield, Massachusetts.

Fatima S., Wasima S., and Zahra A. accepted by Middlebury-Monterey world-class summer Intensive English Program at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI.

SOLA students take a field trip to Nangarhar and Laghman provinces.

Zahra A. offered full three-year scholarship to St. George's School in Newport
, RI,  where a rigorous curriculum and a supportive residential community are designed to enable students to succeed in and contribute to a complex, changing world.

Wasima S. receives scholarship to attend Russell Sage College, a comprehensive college in Troy, NY, with liberal arts and professional degree programs aimed at engendering women of influence in their careers and communities.

Brown University offers summer scholarships to Sabira M., rising senior at Marianapolis School in Thompson, CT, for six weeks of intensive English and leadership!

Farahnaz A., junior at Dauntsey's School, UK, awarded Mathieson Memorial Scholarship for AS Revision Course in Physics over Easter holidays at Oxford Tutorial College. (20 Apr. 2012)
